Duty lies on everyone entrusted with a task to ensure that that task is done well. If it’s a supervisory role, then the success of the supervisor lies in the ability to obtain the best results from the supervisees.
Anytime you are called upon to handle an assignment, a job or any task, ensure you are well equipped with the right tools to achieve the result intended. If those tools are not available and are essential to the delivery of that project, obtain them or escalate this to the right authority. It is better to reject an offer to handle some works, than to do them unprepared and make a mess of everything.
Excellence is an attribute that is admired by everyone including those that thrive on mediocrity. Strive to attain excellence in anything you are doing. Let that be your hallmark. If you become intentional about how you live your life, how you handle the works that are assigned to you, or the ones you undertake to handle and how you treat your affairs generally, you would come to the realization that the best person to be is an excellent person; one who does not do half measures, one who insists on doing things the right way, etc. Strive to be that person people can vouch for his excellence and unique approach to life.
Being the different one might be a lonely journey, especially when you’ve formed the habit of insisting that things should be done the right way. At first, you may be seen by others as ‘doing too much’, they may loath you, they may make snide comments at your back. But trust me, in the long run, they will eventually learn to respect, your principles and values. It really pays to be a person of value. Be that person.
