Duties or responsibilities are activities that you are supposed to do. It does not matter whether you like them or not, they are tasks that are assigned to you, that you are held accountable for, so that if you succeed, you take credit for such success, and when the opposite occurs, you take the fall for it. (You can see the video version of this here –https://youtu.be/li0rA-e2Viw?si=CtHqgCedoFMj6Fzs )
Your responsibilities are what they are; they are yours and you can’t assign them to someone else. Take, for instance, the responsibility to take care of the offspring you have birthed; you can’t shy away from that task, they have been given to you by nature just by bringing children into this world. You may also occupy a position in your organization, a position that entails many expectations, where you have deliverables, KPIs, etc. You cannot excuse away the responsibilities that come with that position and only enjoy the perks, you must perform your duties and get good results for your organization. One of the most effective ways to handle your responsibilities is to understand why those responsibilities are yours. If you don’t understand the “why” of a thing or a situation, you may not understand why you need to deliver on your responsibility. So the first step to realizing good results, either for yourself or for people you have entrusted with responsibilities, is to understand the why. If people understand the why, you won’t need to preach a sermon before they deliver on their tasks!
Understanding the why of a task alone does not guarantee a good result, the know-how to deliver on a task is vital. So acquire the knowledge, the skill set or whatever that your responsibilities dictate.
In summary, getting good results requires an understanding of the why of a responsibility and having the necessary know-how required of that role. So, examine yourself and work on why the result you desire is not showing.
Have a fruitful week!
